Hopefully this newsletter finds you all well! My husband and I returned from Europe a day before the European travel restrictions were in place and we are happy to be home. We use all safety precautions, and have quarantined ourselves for two weeks, receive food deliveries from Whole Foods as Prime Amazon members to our door steps, and will work from home for the time being. Our son returned from studying abroad after a week in Nairobi, just in time before it became too complicated. We are forever grateful to be together and do what we can to stay as healthy as possible.
As I receive many texts, e-mails or other messages from family, friends, and clients right now who ask me what I recommend, I decided to share it with all of you...
Of course, my emphasize is always on food first, and all of you who have seen me for a consultation, please start with all my recommendations, including an Anti-Inflammatory Diet, and my shopping list "The World's Healthiest Foods"!
- Eat fresh vegetables, cooked steamed and baked!
- Use herbs and spices, which have medicinal properties and are extremely antioxidant rich!
- Eat 1-2 fruits a day. You can add them to breakfast dishes as oatmeal (cooked with water), brown rice porridge or quinoa bowls. Add cinnamon and non-dairy liquids.
- Eat lean protein like fish, shellfish (especially high in Omega-3 fatty acids).
- Chicken, turkey, lamb are great choices too. (Don't forget Chicken Soup!)
- Avoid sugar and artificial sweeteners.
- Avoid dairy, white starches, and of course sugar because they are mucus forming. Viruses and bacteria can multiply in large amounts of mucous...
- Eat beans and legumes if your gastrointestinal system allows it. They are high in protein, low in calories, and high in fiber which is necessary to properly eliminate.
- Drink good quality water!!! ½ of your body weight in lbs., drink in ounces! Fresh lemon or lime squeezed in water helps to rid yourself from toxins, and adds Vitamin C.
- Herbal teas are a great choice. They will warm you. Manuka Honey can be added for the anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties.
- Avoid processed food! I know that most people are stock piling pre-made foods, or pasta, rice, and canned goods. Try to stick to fresh as much as possible to receive the nutrients your body needs to protect itself.
Please use a few of these recommendations for a 7-Day creative Meal Plan
to boost your and families Immunity!

Dr. Joel Evans on COVID-19
Dr. Evans is the Medical Director of KBMO Diagnostics, the lab that owns the FIT Tests.
See the attached 3-minute video from Dr. Joel Evans on how his practice is adapting to telemedicine as well as how the
FIT Test
is a great way for clients to strengthen immune health as diet is critical as well as reducing inflammation.
"Clients can take control and help boost their immunity at this time by running a test and look at their diets on an individualized basis to reduce inflammation. The FIT Test is a great first step."
If any of you would like to make an appointment to talk about boosting immunity, I offer to talk to my clients on Zoom. Payments can be made on my website after you set up a time with me via phone.
Of course, there are a few other recommendations I encourage you to be mindful of:
- Work on your sleep hygiene. If you are tired, go to bed earlier, take a nap. Listen to your body!
- Move! My husband and I take walks through the neighborhood, avoiding people now that we are in quarantine.
- Make an effort to relax as much as scary news and worries affect us all. We all need to find some balance for ourselves. I just finished a workshop with Dr. Elson Haas on immunity. As I used to teach meditation and I am certified in Mind-Body medicine as a Functional Medicine Coach, I recommend a few minutes each day to sit in prayer, to visualize strong health, to surround yourself with healing gold light, or to chant to strengthen the throat and heart chakra as a wonderful way to start or end the day. A good book, laughter, your favorite music can all help to take your mind off worries for a bit. Be mindful about how things make you feel and redo what makes you feel good or better!
I have been on the phone, or otherwise in contact with my loved ones more, and it fills my heart with gratefulness to know they are well. Now is a great time to reach out to others, cheer them up, make them felt cared for, and valued by you.
Friends asked me about supplements too!
I have used supplements from Patient One Formulas now since about 6 months and love them very much!
Of course, there can't be claims made, but we feel good taking them.
Uses for Zinc
Hundreds of enzymes rely on zinc for their normal activities in cellular metabolism. Zinc is a cofactor in carbohydrate and protein metabolism. It is also related to the normal absorption and actions of the B vitamins.
The important role of zinc in protein metabolism is connected to its essential role in wound healing, and normal inflammatory response. The mineral is instrumental for the maintenance and integrity of skin and mucous membranes and plays an important role in collagen formation and healthy tissue development.
Zinc provides immune support, promoting healthy neutrophil, natural killer cell and T-lymphocyte function. Studies show that zinc helps the body defend against infection.

The Magic Mineral Broth
If you are looking for additional nutrients in your food to protect the whole family, please use the recipe from Rebecca Katz's
"Magic Mineral Broth" that you can find on my website under Blogs.

This way you can double your vitamin/ mineral intake by starting with this broth, that is easy to make and can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days, or freezer as your cooking foundation.
The world has changed so much in the last months since we left to Brussels to spend a few days with our son before he flew to Nairobi. We are all so different, and this crisis is an opportunity to connect with our loved ones, think about our priorities, be mindful, be still, and live in the moment.
I wish you all good health and strength. Please call me if you have questions, set up a time to talk for 30 minutes or an hour. My husband and I recently re-did our FIT Test, and we feel so much better by removing the foods we are sensitive to. Health is an ongoing challenge, and I encourage you all to take the necessary SELF-CARE!!!
