Spring is almost here!
Especially where we live, here in the Northeast, we are all exhausted from the amount of snow that we shoveled, we still worry about the melting water and the damage it might cause, businesses need to recover from losses, so we do need to get our energy back!
I always talk to my clients about “adding the good” with nutrient dense food choices.
To regain your energy, you need to add many healthy nourishing food choices to your meal plan to regain your health, strength, to feel young, vibrant, and energized.
When we look in the mirror, what we see matters every day. To feel good about our bodies, to feel healthy in our own skin, makes a big difference in our energy level and the confidence in which we go through our daily lives!
Please read my

Nutrition For Radiant Looking Skin
What we eat can make us beautiful!
Discover what food can make your skin radiant, youthful, and vibrant.
Did you ever wonder if what you're eating is causing your skin to look dull, age, and lose elasticity? Well, the wonder is over because I can tell you that we are what we eat, or even more concrete: "we are what we assimilate." What we eat and assimilate from the nutrients that we eat determines the chemistry of our body! Each one of our cells is renewed and the food that we intake is what those new cells are made from. Proper diet and nutrition is key in maintaining healthy, glowing, and vibrant skin. Certain vitamins and minerals are known for enhancing complexion and are responsible for maintaining younger-looking skin. After the age of fifty, our body produces less and less collagen and elastin, and as a result, our skin starts to appear older and loses its firmness.
Wrinkles form when skin loses its elasticity! As long as the skin is supple, any creasing of the skin disappears as soon as you stop making the expression that caused it. But skin that has lost its suppleness retains the lines formed by smiling, frowning, or worrying. Over time, these lines deepen into wrinkles. Some amount of wrinkling is a result of aging and is inevitable. With aging, all skin cells begin to produce an excess amount of free radicals. These free radicals eventually break down collagen and release chemicals that cause skin inflammation. The extent of wrinkles are determined by diet and nutrients, muscle tone, habitual facial expressions, stress, proper skin care, exposure to pollutants, and lifestyle choices (such as smoking). Sun exposure is one of the most important factors in skin health and probably the skins worst enemy. Worse, the effects of the sun are cumulative, although they may not be obvious for years.
Here are some nutritional recommendations for healthy glowing skin:
- Eat a well balanced diet that includes many and varied vegetables and fruits, to provide your skin with the nutrients it needs.
- Include legumes, nuts, and seeds in your diet.
- Drink about 2 quarts of water daily, even if you do not feel thirsty. This will help the skin to stay hydrated and will flush away toxins!
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine. These substances dry out the skin, making it more vulnerable to wrinkling.
- Do not smoke! The smoking habit means pursing one's lips hundreds of times each day. The creases that form when you inhale from a cigarette often develop into wrinkles at an early age.
- Get regular exercise. Like other organs, the skin gets its nourishment from the bloodstream. Exercise increases the circulation of the blood to the skin.

Vitamins and Minerals IN REAL FOOD for the Skin
Here is a list of vitamins/minerals in certain foods that can reverse the effects of aging and take you one-step closer to amplifying your skin's natural beauty:
- Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that fights against the damage done by free radicals on your skin. Vitamin C protects your skin cells from damage caused by exposure to UV Rays. Vitamin C's role in collagen production makes it a vital nutrient for skin health. Tropical fruits like pineapple, citrus fruits, papaya, and mangoes are high in Vitamin C, so you get both beauty and health benefits from these types of food. Other foods high in Vitamin C include red peppers, strawberries, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and parsley. So enjoy many of those Vitamin C rich foods daily, to increase your body's natural ways of collagen synthesis!
- Copper. You may just think of copper as a metal or question how copper could relate to skincare, but copper has long been recognized to have various benefits for your skin. Copper is essential in collagen production, forming long strands of connected molecules called fibrils, which join together to support your tissues-these joined strands fight against skin stretching, maintaining elasticity. Not only does copper keep your skin tighter and firmer, but copper also contributes to your skin's natural tone and can prevent wrinkles. Copper is found most concentrated in Calf's liver, sesame seeds, Crimini mushrooms, shellfish, cashews, and pumpkin seeds, soybeans, and legumes but is also found in whole grain foods.
- Vitamin A. Vitamin A reduces wrinkles, fades brown spots, evens tone, and smoothens skin roughness. Vitamin A exists in two forms in the human diet: preformed vitamin A (retinol) and provitamin A carotenoids. Retinol acts as an antioxidant helping skin cells create healthier skin cells, increasing both collagen and glycosaminoglycan production, resulting in firmer skin. Preformed vitamin A is found in animal products, including dairy, meat, and fish. Beta-carotene is one of the most important carotenoids that helps repair and protect skin tissue from UV rays. Beta-carotene is also great at preventing breakouts by unclogging pores. Foods that are excellent sources of Vitamin A are carrots, sweet potatoes, dark leafy greens, butternut squash, parsley, red bell peppers, cayenne pepper, cantaloupe, broccoli, tomatoes, asparagus and apricots.
- Vitamin B3. Vitamin B3, also known as niacin, is a water-soluble vitamin that helps with acne and redness reduction, eliminating toxins and harsh chemicals from the skin cells. Vitamin B3 helps with the production of important enzymes that are produced less and less as we age. These enzymes produce lipids, which are responsible for skin cell growth, enhancing the skin's natural barrier to pollutants and other irritants. Vitamin B3 is also particularly helpful with anti-inflammatory properties. Healthy choices containing Vitamin B3 include fish, and chicken, legumes, nuts, mushrooms, and pumpkin seeds.
- Wrinkle lines from the lips towards the nose may be due to a deficiency of Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin). Good choices are: Crimini mushrooms, spinach, Romaine lettuce, asparagus, Swiss chard, broccoli, venison, yoghurt (no fat).
- Researchers studying premature aging have found that Vitamin E, in Sunflower seeds, Swiss chard, almonds, and spinach might help prevent wrinkling, as selenium does, which works with Vitamin E to assist the body's use of oxygen and promote cell life.
- Excellent sources of Selenium are Crimini mushrooms, cod, Shiitake mushrooms, shrimp, tuna, sardines, and salmon.
Experts agree that eating a balanced diet is one of the best ways to keep your skin healthy and glowing. So remember to get your daily intake of these anti-aging vitamins and minerals through a Healthy Eating!

There Are No Shortcuts!
Lose weight and keep it off forever!
Don't believe in using "shortcuts" to achieve the figure you want. Set your g
Spring is around the corner, and thinking about wearing clothes in which we cannot hide, makes us think about those few extra pounds that we gained during the winter months.
Losing weight seems to be a healthy goal for many!
The health-implications of carrying excess body fat are well known. It is not just about the way we look and what we are seeing in the mirror! Chances of developing weight related health problems increase as we get older. Losing weight can boost our confidence, enable us to be more energetic, strong, active, and independent.
These health benefits can't be quickly achieved by some miracle diets that focus only on losing pounds. Most people who lose weight in that manner gain it back within a year. Lasting success in managing your weight involves a long-term commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Healthy eating, and physical activity- and staying motivated to continue these- are the building blocks of a healthy lifestyle.
The intersection of all three factors is where you achieve Healthy Weight!
Most weight loss plans require you to follow some new type of diet that include a special twist in the hope to find it new and interesting enough to make you willing to put up with whatever unbalanced regimen is prescribed through a period of initial weight loss.
In any diet plan- including weight loss plans- it is important that you nourish yourself with nutrients rather than just fueling yourself with calories, or avoiding calories in the first place. Nourishing yourself with nutrients might mean eating more of some kind of food, not less.
I advise my clients to eat more nutrient dense food, unprocessed, whole foods that are low in calories, that taste great, and that will help you feel full and satisfied. Foods that will help you meet your personal health and weight loss goals!
When it comes to helping promote weight loss, the low-calorie, nutrient richness of vegetables makes them a unique food group. I do recommend a diet built on many vegetables that are low in starch where overeating is not a legitimate concern (starchy vegetables are: corn, potatoes, peas, squash.)
Please take advantage of a 30-minute free consultation, that I offer to all new clients, to see how we can work as a team in reaching your goals.
If you want to take your health to the next level, please see me for a 1-hour prepared personalized nutrition consultation, in which I will help you analyze your current eating habits and guide you to a diet that matches your personal goals and current health situation.
I do give discounts to my clients who want to commit seeing me more frequently, to improve your accountability, and keep you motivated on your journey to better health!
