Looking for a Gift of Health?
I hope you took advantage of the many hours at home this year to reflect on health, becoming more whole, improved daily habits, and maybe added more water intake, work- out routines, and more meals cooked from scratch. If you think that there is further room for improvement, please reach out to me. I am always here for you with coaching and consultation sessions to cheer you on, and support you on your health journey!
Please also think about your relatives and friends who would benefit from a "Gift of Health" for Christmas. The whole world and all news and discussions still revolve around health in our New Normal. The best defense I believe is being our healthiest, and working diligently on improvements!! Changing eating habits is not as hard as you may think, and it is so rewarding.

A Healthy Llifestyle for Boosted Immunity
Hopefully this newsletter finds you in good health! As we all continue to navigate our lives through this pandemic, I came across a few great articles from the Healthy Living Guide 2020/ 2021 from the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, that I would love to share.

Healthy Fiber-Rich Fall choices
I hope you are doing well, and you have enjoyed this last stretch of gorgeous weather between late Summer and early Fall. What a treat to have blue skies, and sunshine during the day, and sleep with wide open windows at night with cool temperatures. As I am preparing soups for a friend going through a health- crises, I thought about squashes and want to look a little deeper.
Squash is very high in fiber, and some studies have shown a link between fiber-rich diets and lower levels of inflammation markers in the blood. Ready to cook? The dense texture and sweet flavor of winter squash make it a much-loved ingredient for soups, roasted sides, and baking.

Fall In Love With September's Best Fruits and Vegetables
How are you doing? I hope that you had a chance to recharge during the summer months, spent time outside, time with family and friends, and enjoyed a bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables during this great time of the year.
I spent a month in Germany to support my mom with a sudden onset of colon cancer by the age of almost 94. There was no way around surgery. My mom recovered amazingly and is back on her feet, enjoying her life, enjoying good food, time outside, and time with good conversations and friends. Since I returned to the U.S. I am soaking up every bit of sun and summer I can. I love the summer, but I also love Fall.

Enjoy the Taste of Summer the Healthy Way!
My journey took me to Germany to support my almost 94-year-old mom after a sudden diagnosis of colon cancer. She had surgery a week ago, will be released from the hospital, and is recovering incredibly well. She walks, her scar is healed closed and she is in good spirits to come home. I will stay by her side for one more week to return to a full schedule, which I am looking forward to! I could not be more grateful for being able to be by her side and for witnessing her improvements!!!
August is one of the best months for produce, according to Chris Romano, an associate produce coordinator at Whole Foods. “In summer there are a lot of good choices out there”. Based on where you live in the U.S., your produce offerings can vary, but in August there are several fruits and veggies that are in-season and tasty nationwide. Let’s look at tomatoes and grapes, which taste their best in August.

How Our Food Choices Impact the Functions of the Body
Summer has arrived! And the world seems to get the pandemic more under control, we are not wearing masks in Massachusetts, have arrived at possible herd immunity. Even my friend in Germany can go to the gym after months of hard lock-downs. Amazing!!! Looking back on the last almost 1 ½ years, what we all went through feels unreal to me now…. My husband and I traveled with lots of fear (and empty airplanes) to make sure our family members are ok.

Finding Your New Direction
Hopefully, this newsletter finds you healthy and at more peace. Summer is ahead of us. I wish you all lots of safe summer fun, great weather with plenty of Vitamin D boosting sunshine, outdoor activities with picnics, bar-b-ques, a bit more social life, time to relax, and the safety to let down our guard a bit!
Most of us are not that comfortable to get into shorts, a summer dress, or a bathing suit after those long winter months in protecting layers of clothes. Now is a great time to think about getting comfortable with the way we feel about ourselves. Even if I do not consider myself a weight loss expert, and care more about health then looks, eating a healthy diet often implies both outcomes.

Fuel Your Body With Foods For Brain Health
May is the month of Mental Health. Some of you have asked me about foods and a cookbook for brain health. A few years ago, I participated in a class taught by Dr. Daniel Amen, and he became my brain health guru. His clinics have started to send me client referrals, who are local in Massachusetts. Please check out his wife’s
"The Brain Warrior’s Way Cookbook." In case you do not intend to purchase the book, I have added the list of his wife’s basic food recommendations.
All our mental health and our emotions have suffered during the last year of worry, fear, loneliness, lack of sleep, and over-consuming. Some of my clients who had Covid, feel that their brain is not as focused as before, many have seen their loved ones be sick and the fear of transmitting the virus was extremely scary.

Spring is Here! Time to Cleanse and Heal Your Body!
While many of us get vaccinated, I would like to encourage you all to think about cleansing your body with healthy foods. Using the FIT Tests for cleansing is a wonderful, very individualized approach. Removing the foods that you are sensitive to and react with inflammation, does wonders to your overall health.
Drinking plenty of good quality water is necessary for any type of cleansing, to flush out toxins. I love fresh squeezed organic lemon or lime juice added to water to produce more bile. If you are worried about the acidity effecting your tooth enamel, try using a straw.

An Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle Might Create More Antibodies After the COVID-19 Vaccine
How are you all doing? It is almost March, and we are moving into the 'National Nutrition Month.' In March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics focuses attention on healthful eating. This year’s theme is, ‘Personalize your Plate,' which promotes creating nutritious meals to meet individuals' cultural and personal food preferences. The Academy encourages everyone to make informed food choices and develop sound eating and physical activity habits they can follow all year long.
We can’t change what is happening in the world during this pandemic. Of course, we can do our best to avoid the spread by living as is recommended by the scientists. We can also each do our part by working on our health improvements while many of us are spending more time at home. Be creative, think about areas that need improvement, and please reach out for help to get it done.

A Whole Foods Diet Can Prevent, Treat, and Heal Illnesses
My 93-year-old mom is vaccinated twice, feels great, and feels more worry-free. She misses contact, concerts, classes, elaborate lunches with her friends but continues to go on her 1-hour walks daily, lately with her walker. With that as a training device, she walks faster and moves so much more elegantly with a straight back.
Her daily routine includes 3 fresh meals, which is how I grew up...and a positive attitude (lots of laughter during our phone calls!). I am in awe of her. Her discipline and her routine, I wish everybody!

Wishing You and Your Families the BEST HEALTH in 2021!
Some of you have asked me if I will get vaccinated. Honestly, I cannot wait to roll up my sleeve. My mom (93, healthy) was vaccinated in Germany yesterday. She feels great, and I am so grateful that the worry about her getting the virus will be over in a few weeks!
My plan is (and of course, this is a personal decision), to be as healthy as possible to handle the vaccine and as we see now in the news, to handle possible different viruses that may follow.
